Show Federation begins legal processes The Southwest Cooperative Power Federation will proceed with condemnation proceedings to acquire CPNational's electric utility system in southern Utah. Federation Chairman Carl Palmer made the announcement this week when an April 1 deadline for CPN to indicate what offer they would find acceptable from the federation was not complied with. CPN has reached a negotiated purchase price with Utah Power and Light but the question has not been scheduled for a Public Service Commission hearing and a vote favoring a municipal power system in Cedar City may have dampened the arrangement. "There are some advantages to condemnation. The Board of Directors Direc-tors feel that condemnation will bypass some of the government regulatory proceedings such as the Public Service Commission. Condemnation Con-demnation by far has the greatest advantage for the people of Iron, Kane and Washington counties since they will be able to establish the value and price of the system through a jury decision," continued Palmer. Legal work, financial arrangements and an inventory of the system will be started so that condemnation con-demnation proceedings can proceed as quickly as possible according to Palmer. Palmer said that the board is preparing for their 2nd Annual meeting at which a new board of directors for both the federation and Southwest Power Agency will be elected. He said that a speaker of national prominence will highlight the anniversary meeting. Plans for the coming year include setting up a federation office and hiring a manager for the group of |
