Show Directors for Summer Festival Announced by SUSC Theater Dept. "Ernest in Love," "Ricochet," "The Songlab" and "Mooch." He has been a professional stage manager at the Kennedy Center, and served as administrative assistant for the University-Resident University-Resident Theatre Associaton, Inc. His design credits include three productions at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and he is a graduate of the University of Maryland. His directing credits include in-clude How America Lives, The Tempest, Measure for Measure, A raisin in the sun. Spoon River Anthology and Waiting for Godot. He has acted in over 25 university and summer stock productions, and has co-authored co-authored a play for the National Park Service. All three directors as well as other company members will be on the Southern Utah State College campus early in June to begin rehearsals and p preparations for the July 10 Festival opening. The Festival Box Office is open Mondays through Fridays between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. As many of the weekend nights .are essentially sold out, patrons wishing tickets are urged to contact . the Box Office regarding availability for specific nights. Directors for the 19th annual Utah Shakespearean Festival were named this week in Cedar City, and their combined experience and enthusiasm is setting a positive tone at the top for the upcoming production season. Two of the summer's directors have previous Festival experience. Tom Markus, who will direct MACBETH, ner-formed ner-formed that role in the 1964 Utah Shakespearean Festival production, and in addition has directed "Twelfth Night", "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and "Hamlet" on the campus of Southern Utah State College. Markus serves as artistic director for the Virginia Museum Theatre, Richmond, Virginia, and has recently directed productions of "Mother Courage," "Waiting for Godot", "As You Like It," "Volpone," and "Dear Liar." He has served as artistic director for the Theater at Monmouth, Mon-mouth, the Shakespeare Theatre of Maine, and has acted in "Gandhi", "Side by Side by Sondheim", and in addition has television and film credits including The Dating Game and The Angry Breed. He holds a PhD degree from Tulane University. j1 1 Tom Markus Measure for Measure, the third play scheduled lor presentation this season, represents two firsts lor the Festival. The play is Ix-ing produced here for the first time, and director Leslie Reidel is also with the Festival for his first season. Reidel is Associate Chairman of the Theatre Department, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He has served on the theatre department faculty at Temple University, and has directed at A variety of regional theatres, including the Villanova Shakespeare Festival, the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre and the C X mini i in nil I n irnim in Jay Stephens Jay Nellman Stephens, who will direct "The Comedy of Errors", served as Stage Manager for the 1979 Utah Shakespearean Festival. According to Producing Director Fred Adams, Stephens' return as a director for the 1980 season is in keeping with the Festivals commitment to developing young talent and providing opportunities for professional growth among festival participants. Stephens is currently directing an Off -Broadway production in New York Citv and has directed Leslie Reidel Philadelphia Drama Guild. r He has also served as drama ' critic for the Philadelphia Review and Philadelphia After Dark. |
