Show I '' j Clara Robinson Phone 784-3463 Temperatures hit 15 below 0 Manila had 3 new low temperatures during the week. The first one was January 28 when it reached 3 below zero which was the lowest for the 1979-80 winter. On January 29, the temperature dropped to 11 below zero which was still the lowest for the year, and on January 31 it dropped down to 15 below zero which is now the lowest temperature for the winter. Some places in the outlaying areas it was 24 below, but at the weather station it was 15 below. This is still warmer than last years low of 22 below zero on December 31. Snow fell during the low temperatures and before. A total of 3' inches fell since last week's report and brought .27 more inches of moisture to the area. Last week Janaury's total precipitation was given as .47, it was .57 which was the same as January's total last year, but with .27 of an inch more, the January total is now .84. The roof and ceiling of the L.P. Biorn home was partly burned during a fire Tuesday night. The cause of the fire has not been determined. The fire was found by Terry Lamb, granddaughter of the Biorn's who has been living there to take care of the place while the Biorn's are on their mission for the LDS church. She found the house was on fire when she arrived home late that night. Help was called and the fire was extinguished ex-tinguished but not before part of the ceiling and roof was removed. One wall and the drapes were also damaged. Four babies were blessed at the Manila LDS church Sunday afternoon, February 3. The babies were as follows: Toni Marie Pallesen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Pallesen, blessed by Bishop Deri Reed, assisted by the infant's in-fant's father and Chad Reed. Linsay Guest, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Guest, who was blessed by her uncle, Glen Tinker, assisted by the baby's father and another uncle, Bryan Tinker. Curtis Brad Slaugh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brad Slaugh, who was blessed by his great uncle, Wesley Slaugh who was assisted by the Manila Ward Bishopric- Grant Pay, Bishop Deri Reed, and Harvard Redden. Rhet Tinker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Tinker, was blesed by her father, j assisted by her uncles, Glen Tinker, I Devan Long and Teryl Collett, and her .' grandfather, Norman W. Long. So far this year every time the ice skating pond at Manila Elementary School is flooded, it snows again. This week Levi Reed, Jr. plowed the snow from the pond. It was flooded that evening even-ing and then snowed again. Friday it was cleared of the snow again by Mr. Reed. The skating was good Friday and ! Saturday forenoon, but in the afternoon the 49 degrees weather melted it some and though it has frozen again it is very rough. Dr. Jim Van Slooten, chiropractor from Salt Lake City, Utah, was seeing patients at the Senior Citizen Center in Manila on Friday evening and Saturday until 2 p.m. Mrs. Curtis Slaugh accompanied her son, Myron Slaugh, to Idaho Fall last week. While there she visited with her husband, Curtis Slaugh, her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Slagowski and two of their children, James and Dawn Marie. She also visited with her brother, Lorn Roberts of Blackfoot, Idaho. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Guest this weekend were David's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Denslow Guest. Visiting at the William Robinson home Saturday were Art Robinson, John Heslert, Samantha Nunly, and Tommy Robinson of Rock Springs, Wyoming. Judy Reed, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Reed, underwent back surgery this week. She is reported to be doing well. North Rich's basketball team from ' Lake Town, Utah will play against Manila's basketball team at Manila on February 8. People in Manila are looking forward to the Sweetheart Ball which is to be held at the Manila High School on February 16. Each year a queen is chosen from candidates chosen from the various classes and school clubs. The candidates present their talents for the public at intermission of the dance. A fish dinner for the senior citizens will fx- held at the Senior Citizen Center on February 9. |
