Show I Vernal 1 Glcnda Landon B Phone 789-2417 III Willi III nil Daughter visits from Scotland Mrs. Jack (Mauzi) Jones from Aberdeen, Scotland, came to Vernal for a 9-day visit with her parents, the Grady Chupps. During that time they all spend three days in Midway at the home of her son, Mike Tunnell and' family. She left February 1 for Dallas, Texas, and will visit her two daughters, Brian and Kathy, who are college students in Denton. She will leave this weekend from there for the return flight to her home in Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Madsen took a three-day vacation last Wednesday through Friday which included skiing in Park City, attending the basketball game between University of Utah and New Mexico in Salt Lake City, -and visits in Ogden and Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Siddoway were in Ogden last Friday and Saturday to watch their son Brett participate in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo at the Golden Spike Coliseum there. Brett won the first go-round in calf roping, and he and his partner won the average (average of the best two times) for team roping. The Weber State team is now leading the region. Brett is a junior at Weber Stae and this is his third year of college rodeo participation. The last two years he has been in the national finals. He will also enter the NIRA rodeo roping events at Weber State College on Feb. 15 and 16. Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Freestone met at the home of their son Wilson on Friday, Feb. 1, to honor them on the occasion of their 70th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Denton attended the annual State Young Farmers convention which was held last weekend on the campus at Utah State University in Logan. Mr. Denton is the agricultural instructor at Uintah High School. Leland McNeill attended the National Intercollegiate Rodeo in Ogden where his daughter Lori pariticpated in several events and won top honors. Charles Lewis spent five days last week in the local hospital recuperating from a heart condition. He is at home now and reports that he is improving. The Orin Daleys had two of their daughters' families at home over the weekend, and two of their new babies were blessed here Sunday. Little Tamara is the daughter of Ramon and Cecile Campbell, and Jamie Lynn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Williams. Mrs. Alta Gardiner injured her left arm in a fall about ten days ago. Later X-rays revealed that the bone was broken in her elbow. It has been very painful but she is now improving. Several Vernal couples attended the Lions Club mid-winter banquet in Salt Lake City last weekend. A luncheon was served Saturday noon at the Hilton Hotel and the banquet that night at the Terrace Ballroom. The guest speaker was Blaine Rush, a director of Lions International, from Kansas. Governor Scott Matheson and Mayor Ted Wilson also spoke brifrfly to the group. Those in attendance representing the Vernal club were the Mike Sullivans, the Glade Watkins, the Keith Caldwells, the Lloyd Winwards, the Don Wardles, and the Gary Taylors. Mike Sullivan is president of the local Lions club, and Marie Wardle is president of the Lady Lions. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Goodrich and Mr. and Mrs. Greg W. Goodrich traveled to Grand Junction Saturday to attend the Mesa County Manufacturers' Manufac-turers' Fair and to visit with their son, Brent E. Hatch and family. Featured at the fair was a display of custom-made cabinets from Cumorah Cabinets of Grand Junction which is owned and managed by Brent Hatch. The Goodrich's returned home Saturday evening. Dr. and Mr. Richard (Alcne) Hansen and two children of Orem came to Vernal for the weekend to visit Alene's mother, Mrs. Zclph Calder. A houseful of guests were at the Harley Hales residence during the past weekend to observe two special occasions; oc-casions; the baptism of their youngest daughter, Sally, and the naming of their first grandchild, Jocsph Kerry Davis, son of Kerry and Pam Davis. The visitors were a daughler, Carolyn, from S.U.S.C. in Cedar City; Harley's parents, the Clifford Hales and their granddaughter from Pleasant Grove; Harley's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hales and young daughter from Orem; also three of Gay's systers: the Lynn Jarvises and 5 children from Pleasant Grove, the Cloyd Krebs and daughter from American Fork, and Mrs. Beverly Fowler and her daughter, Michelle, from Lehi. A family dinner was served afterward for 32 people. |
