Show City police make fast arrest at Gibson's On Sunday, January 3, at approximately ap-proximately midnight, officers David W. Free and Paul Parker responded to a burglar alarm at Gibson's Discount Center, 2199 West Highway 40. Upon arrival, Officer Free located one male exiting the rear door of Gibson's and effected his arrest. William Don Goodman, 30, of Vernal, was subsequently charged with one count of Business Burglary and incarcerated in-carcerated in Uintah County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. Further investigation by the Vernal Police Department revealed that Goodman had acted alone in the burglary. Goodman allegedly gained forced entry through the roof of Gibson's, Gib-son's, and then after tripping the alarm, used bolt cutters to open a padlocked rear door in his escape attempt. at-tempt. Detective-Sgt. Robert T. Downard, Vernal City Police Department, Depart-ment, credited Officer Free with an outstanding job in effecting the arrest of Goodman single handedly. The alertness demonstrated by Officers Free and Parker in responding to the alarm is the factor which made the apprehension of Goodman possible. Investigation is continuing by Detective Joe Boren, Vernal City Police Department, into pending charges from California to Goodman. If convicted, Goodman faces a possible $5,000 fine andor 0-5 years in the Utah State Penitentiary or both. Dennis Kidwell, manager of Gibson's, complimented Officers, David W. Free and Paul Parker, Detectives, Mel Curtis and Robert Downard and Chuck Hill, patrol sergeant for their auick response in connection with the burglary. |
