Show Manila 1 Clara Robinson 1 Phone 784-3463 J Manila students participate in drama festival High school students from Manila participated in the drama fesitival held at Altamont, Utah on Friday, April 18. The ratings for the various events and the participants were as follows: Scenes from plays "Hair of Aardwold" father played by Allen Friedman and Jerry played by Kevin Mitchel-rating (will go to state), scene from "Ransom of Red Chief" played by Clint Schofield , and Lance Slaugh-rating (will go to state) scene "Hair of Aardwold" played by Glenn Ellsworth and Mitch Ford-rating "good". Kevin Slaugh who was "Able" in the one act play "The Dear Departed" was chosen (best actor in region).' The play with supporting cast being Debbie Sikich, Dawn Sikich, Leeanne Redden, Mitch Ford, Allen ' Friedman, only received a rating of "good" so Kevin will not be going to state. The Manila Elementary School students grades 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 took an all day trip from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Fri-day, April 18. They journeyed to Salt Lake City, where they visited the Hansen Planetarium and the Hogle Zoo. Chaperones for the trip were Shelley Bernard, Blenda Larsen, Lucy Conant, Florence Murphy, Layne Potter, Pot-ter, Damon Palmer, and Gail Despain. Manila Elementary School kindergarten and first graders went by school bus to Dinosaur Land Friday, April 18. After enjoying the sights at Dinosaur Land, they returned to Vernal where they ate sack lunches at the park before coming home. They arrived home just before school was dismissed. Chaperones for the first graders and kindergarten children were their teachers Pam Monson and Ann Bruner, parents David Rosser, Lenita Steinaker, and Jana Tinker. Manila had beautiful weather this past week with two new highs in the temperature for this spring. On Thursday Thurs-day temperatuares rose to 67 which was a new high, but the next day it soared to 74 above zero. The next two days it was 74 above zero also. The ground is getting get-ting a little dry, and even though people have enjoyed the warm weather, they would welcome some wet weather again. Where lawns were watered the grass seemed to grow an inch each day. The American Cancer Fund workers were busy calling on Daggett County residents this past week. A few are calling call-ing back. Christa Jensen and AJeta Ellsworth will be finishing the census taking in Manila area this week. It is expected to be completed April 25. A great deal of time has been spent locating owners of empty buildings to determine how many rooms in them and the plumbing conditions. Orvel Potter who was recovering from surgery which he had undergone in Salt Lake City, last month was taken to the hospital in Rock Springs Saturday Satur-day night after he became very ill. Manila will be holding a festival of arts week this week, April 21-27. April 21 will be the "Tears of Joy Puppet Show"; April 23-Sylvia Rosser's dancers will perform ; April 25 the Community Com-munity Art and Talent Show sponsored by the high school. Due to the dance presentation Wednesday night, April 23, the regular meeting of the Lucerne Valley sheep and pig project 4-H meeting will be postponed until Thursday at 7:30. Those from Manila attending the farewell testimonial for Genevieve Siler at the Green River LDS Stake Center in Green River were WaNeta Lamb, Mrs. Curtis Slaugh, Juanita Ellsworth and Mrs. William Robinson, Others attended an open house held in Mrs. Siler's honor at the multipurpose room at the Green River LDS Stake Center. Mrs. Siler will be entering the mission home in Provo in preparation for her mission for the LDS church to the Nashville Tennessee mission. Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson, Mrs. George Ellsworth of Manila, Mrs. Genevieve Siler, and Mrs. Mera Smith visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Robinson in Rock Springs Sunday evening. |
