Show General authority to preside over Vernal Stake conference Elder Ronald E. Poelman, member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints, will be the general authority at the Vernal Utah Stake Conference to be held at the Vernal Utah Stake center Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27. The first session of the conference will be held Saturday, at 7 p.m. and is for all members of the stake 18 years of age and older. The theme for the conference is "The home is the place to save souls." A special film "The family and the home" will be presented and Elder Poelman will address the conference con-ference along with other members of the stake. Sunday morning at 8 a.m., a special session for priesthood leaders will be held in thestake center. This meeting is for all stake priesthood leaders, ward bishoprics, clerks and executive secretaries, all Melchizechk priesthood quorum presidencies, group leaders, secretaries and assistants and all Aaronic priesthood advisors. The general session of the conference will convene at 10 a.m. Sunday in the historic stake Tabernacle, with overflow seating in the stake center. Elder Poelman was called to his latest church position on April 1, 1978. He graduated with high honors from the University of Utah in 1953 and received his juris doctor degree from the University's Law School in 1955. In 1965 he graduated from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, Advanced Management Program. At the time of his call to full-time church service, he was vice president, corporate secretary and director of Consolidated Freightways, Inc., in San Francisco. He is a member of the Utah State Bar Association, American Bar Association and Motor Carrier Lawyers Association. In civic life, Elder Poelman is a rehabilitation counselor for the American Cancer Society, active in the Boy Scouts of America and was a director of Junior Achievement of Bay Area, Inc. He is a member of the San Francisco Symphony Foundation, Commonwealth Club of California, World Trade Club and San Francisco Commercial Club. He has served his church as: counselor coun-selor in the Palo Alto Stake Presidency, bishop, high counselor, seminary teacher and missionary to the Netherlands, 1945-47 Born May 10, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Elder Poelman married Claire Stoddard, graduate of Brigham Young Univeristyt on March 30, 1950. She died May 5, 1979. They are the parents of three daughters and a son. He is a brother of Carol P. Feltch of Vernal. |
