Friday is Arbor Day, the day to plant a tree. We like the idea that every young child should either plant a tree or have a tree planted for them so they can both grow together. When the child becomes an adult they can say, this is the tree I planted. See how it has grown. Before retiring Saturday night all the clocks in the house should be turned ahead one hour so you will be on Daylight Saving Time Sunday morning. Every year at 2:00 a.m. on the last Sunday Sun-day in April in all states but Arizona and Hawaii all clocks are moved ahead one hour to make more daylight hours in the evenings. Every year we resist the move, but it doesn't do any good. So we guess if everyone would just as soon move their clocks back and forth twice every year to fool themselves that they are saving daylight, we might as well join the crowd. Anyway, most of us have solved the mental gymnastics of figuring out which way to move our clocks, either forward or backwards with the little jingle, "spring ahead in the Spring and fall behind in the Fall." Any other reasoning is impossible to figure out and just gets one mixed up, we have found. The warm, almost 80 degree weather, that arrived last week is really great. Now the gardens can be planted and the spring work can begin. We only hope that the warm weather doesn t turn cold again like it sometimes does, and that this warm weather doesn't cause flooding by bringing the snow in the mountains down too fast. Anyway, it feels good to hang up the winter coat and enjoy shirt sleeve weather again. |
