Hbdgkinsons have new granddaughter Harlend E. and Hedy Hodgkinson received word of the arrival of a new granddaughter, their 28th grandchild, born April 6 on the 150th anniversary of the organization of the LDS church. They left the next day by bus to see 1 her inUkiah, Cal., which is 135 miles north of San Francisco. It is a grape-growing area, and the vineyards and countryside coun-tryside were very green and beautiful. The baby's parents are Mr. an Mrs. James (Marie) McKell and she is their eighth child. She weighed 9 lbs. 13 oz. and will be named Mandi. The Hodgkinsons stayed there about 10 days to help in the home and do some sightseeing. On their return trip they stopped over a day in Salt Lake City where they were met by two of their children's families: Blaine and Norene Field and their three boys from Idaho Falls, and Larry and Donna Hodgkinson and their three children from Orem. The 12 of them had a family dinner together and enjoyed sightseeing in Temple Square, the new visitor's center and the church office building. Harlend and Hedy returned home Friday night. Warren and Cleone Merkley are enjoying visits from their twin daughters who came home for the weekend to help celebrate Warren's birthday on Monday. They are Julie and Steven Peterson, and Janet and Jerry Lewis and their baby daughter Sarah who is just 3 weeks old. They will return to Provo to continue the husband's schooling at BYU. Mr. and Mrs. Fran (Jennie) Feltch who spent the wintry months in Hemmett, California, have returned home for the summer. Jan Williams, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Williams, who has been attending BYU College of Hawaii for the last semester, returned home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Migliori took their son, Kirk, to Provo Thursday to enter the Missionary Training Center. Visitors at their home last weekend who came to attend his farewell were Karl's mother, Virginia Migliori, and his sister's family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rowley and son Brad, of Sandy; also Susan's father, Russell Waterman, fronxPrice and herister's family, Mr. , and Mrs. Ray Sego and children from , West Jordan.'"". ''W? : Mr. and Mrs. William (Julie) Bigler have ' moved into the home formerly owned by Tyrrell Seager on 6th West and 3Va South. Julie is the daughter of Don and Ruth Walker. The Biglers have recently returned from Germany where he was stationed at the Army base in Mainz. The last 2 of their 3 children were born in Germany. Mr. Bigler is out of the Armed Services now and is working for Nalco.' Keith and LaJean Foley of Roosevelt welcomed their first child, a baby girl, born Monday April 14 in the Roosevelt hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. and will be named Emily. Her grandparents grand-parents are Matthew and Virginia Foley of Vernal and Alva and Jean Snow of Roosevelt. The Snows are now in Seattle where he is president of the Seattle mission for the LDS church. Miss Colette Sweatfield, daughter of Tex and Beth Sweatfield, completed her student teaching a week ago at Uintah High School in physical education. She returned to Provo last week for semester exams and will register at BYU again spring term to complete the requirements for her degree and teaching certificate. Geroge E. Johnstun returned Tuesday from a 10-day vacation. He first went to Bountiful for a few days and then flew to St. George to visit his brother, Owen, and his wife, the former Mabel Anderson. He also visited Carl and Dorothy Searle and Barth and Jennie Shaffer. Barth is an old school friend of George's and a brother of Pearl Shaffer. George enjoyed the early gardening there and the warm weather, but is glad to be home again. Mrs. Vinnie Lee has returned home after a week's visit in Rangley with her daughter, Mary Alice Patton. Arvin Nelson who spent eight days in the hospital recently is now recuperating at home and is eager to resume his usual activities. He is a teacher at the Naples school. Word was received Saturday afternoon af-ternoon by Mrs. Mazie Christensen of the sudden death of her son, Boyd of Boise, Idaho. He had gone to Lake Powell with some business associates and while there he passed away in his sleep. He was 57. His wife if the former Margie Schanno, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Schanno. They had three children. One son, Max, had preceded him in death. The funeral will be in Boise on Wednesday, April 24. Charlotte Clark, a student at BYU is here during the semester break visiting at the home of her sister's family, Ronald and Eunice Stone. Steve Kropp, a student at USU in Logan was visiting over the weekend with John and June Christiansen and their three children. David Bennion of Boise, Idaho has recently been promoted to manager of the engineering firm of Cornell, Howell, Hayes and Merrif ield. He has been with the firm the past twelve years, since his graduation from Utah State University in 1968. His wife is the former Susan Danes and they have one little girl, Natalie. David is the son of Beatrice and the late Leland E. Bennion of Vernal. Mrs. Jess (Alice) York who underwent un-derwent surgery in Ogden about two months ago, has been very ill for some time. When she was released from the hospital she went to the home of her daughter, Sharon, in Ogden, where she has been convalescing. She is now feeling better and was able to come home recently. Mrs. Thelma Wright has just returned from a two-weeks vacation to Texas. She flew to Dallas where she visited her two brothers, Ted and Quentin, and their families. On the return trip she stopped over in Denver to spend a few days with her son's family, Brian and Lynn (Webb) and their two daughters. Mrs. Daren (Deleen) Green of Clearfield and her twins came Thursday for a weekend visit with her parents, Glen and Delores Stephenson. Her husband is police chief of Clearfield Clear-field and they have six children. The twins, Debbie and Daren S., are their two youngest and are 4 years old. While here, Deleen visited her sister, Kathy Snow and family in Jensen, and other relatives and friends. She assisted her mother with a wedding Friday night and attended the Community Concert Saturday. She and the twins left Monday morning to return home. Mrs. Pearl Snyder returned home last week from a three months' visit in California. She left right after Christmas to spend the remaining winter months with her daughter's family, Mr. and Mrs. Kay L. (Marge) Mecham of Fountain Valley near Los Angeles. The Mechams have three children, Mrs. Tracy Huntsman who lives in Idaho Falls, Jeffrey, 20, and Greg, 8, who are at home. Pearl stayed with her two grandsons while Kay and Marge went to Florida for a two weeks' business trip. She enjoyed the beautiful warm weather, and altho there were bad floods in surrounding areas there was no damage near the Mecham home. On her return trip, Pearl stayed over in Salt Lake City two weeks for a visit with her daughter Jane Manuel and family. Mrs. Erva Bowden, Vernal Utah stake Relief Society president, her two counselors, Mary Schaefermeyer and Roma Anderson, and secretary Dorothy O'Neil, went to Salt Lake City Monday for a meeting with the General Presidency of the Relief Society. They planned to stay overnight and go to the Provo Temple Tuesday before retur ning home. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Dillon, their seven children and a friend, went to Bountiful last week for the wrestling tournament in which their son, Jimmy par-ficipated.After par-ficipated.After it was over, the7amfly visited Boyd and Sharon's parents who live in Orem. Recent visitors at the Robert Vincent home were Carol's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shampton of Salt Lake City. Carol's mother spent a week here visiting her daughter's family. Her father came out for the weekend and to take his wife home. Terrance and Carolyn Batty and their six-month-old daughter, Trisha, moved back from Provo last weekend and are living in the apartment south of ' the Echo Park motel. Terrance graduated last Friday from BYU with a major in interior design and will be working here with his family in their businesses. Carolyn's parents, Shirley and Afton Price, and his family, Garth and Marita Batty, Kyle and Alicia, all went to Provo last Friday to attend his graduation. A number of Vernal students from BYU have returned home for the summer. Laurie Haws, daughter of Irvin and Patty Haws, brought her roomate, Debbie Henwood, home for several days visit. She will be leaving Wednesday Wed-nesday for her home in Calgary, Canada. Debra Ramsey's sister, Denise Greenwood, visited her over the weekend. Denise left Sunday for her home in Alhambra, Cal., and plans to return to BYU in the fall. John Jacobsen, a student at BYU during the winter semester has returned home to work for the summer. Also Jan Goodrich, Wendell Francis, Steve Ellis, Kevin Murray, Paula Sowards and Allison Burraston. Mark Sheffer and Joyette Speirs are staying at BYU for the spring term. Steven Howell came home but left Monday for Green River where he has employment. as The flavoring vanilla gets its name from the Spanish word meaning little pod. |
