S Dairy Division The dairy industry in Utah is on a firmer basis than at any time in re reI recent re- re cent years ears notwithstanding the trying times that we have just passed I through While some of th the producers became alarmed at the high prices of fled feed and labor since the war began beganI I and a few of them have disposed ot of otI their herds reports ris sho t sho t that a t the I I number of dairy cows has not been I reduced to any gl great eat extent and the production of dairy products has even en I increased This indicates that the thel I I cows sold were of the low producing type and that better feeding has been I I th the rule II QUALITY IMPROVES I The quality of Utah's dairy dahy s sis is being improved each year as shown I by the demand for purebred bulls that are being distributed in all the dairy sections of the state Under present I conditions and the high cost of producing producing pro pro- dairy products it must necessarily i c i for e efficiency efficiency I both In the management and feeding of dairy cattle High o producing cows I Iare are required and the dairymen who I do not adopt some means to cull out Inefficient animals must either lose money or quit the business This is just what happens in all lines of industry industry in- in and some of the most Inefficient inefficient of the dairymen have been crowded out This has not only taken talen place in Utah to some extent but all allover alii over the United States I consider this I beneficial ll to the dairy industry in general because It helps to make bettel bets bet tel ter markets for those that remain in inthe inthe the business and a better quality of products for the consumer NATURE FAVORS UTAH Nature has favored Utah in many ways but not more so than In providing providIng provid- provid I Ing favorable conditions for the growing growing grow grow- I ing of livestock and dairy animals in I particular The dairy industry has developed de to the greatest extent In the sections of the country where alfalfa or clover can be grown and where pure water is abundant Utah has both and the industry is growing Four hundred silos have een built during I the past few years many good sanitary I barns have been erected which means better feed and better care for the I I dairy cow and cleaner dairy products Utah has splendid markets for dairy dairy products The large number of creameries cream cream- eris eries and cheese factories found In Utah provide markets equal to any section of the country countr Five Ive years ago Utah was Importing dairy products in large amounts This last year the exports ex- ex ports of dairy products amounted to I eX-I several million dollars Utah dairymen dairymen dairy dairy- men are making money the dairy herds add wealth to the state as wen well I I as making the farms more productive I |
