Show PARIS EATS HORSE FLESH BY THE TON PARIS, March t. Are you fond of horse flesh? This is a question which will be asked In Paris shortly. If the increasing in-creasing popularity of horse flesh as an article of food continues. Statistics show that of 28,973 horses sold at the Paris markets last year In the Boulevard de l'Hospltal, 22,792 were sent direct to the slaughter-house to be prepared for human food. The average weight of edible flesh from a horse being 600 pounds, it is estimated that 22,600.000 pounds of horse flesh were eaten In Paris during 1906. In 1899 the amount was 10,000,000.- It Is stated that horse flesh Is more nourishing than either beef or mutton, and much cheaper. Some doctors recommend recom-mend the flesh of the horse to patients who are In need of superalimentation. The only objection to it is that the grain is somewhat coarser than that of beef. |
