Show TEACHERS TO GET INCREASED SALARIES THROUGH NEW LAW Teachers throughout the State were greatly pleased yesterday with the action ') of the Legislature by both houses passing: pass-ing: bills to their satisfaction. Fotir bills went through the Senate and one through the House. Probably the most important was the one tn the House known as H. B. 217. by Marks. It was defeated the day before, but was reconsidered yesterday and passed. The measure practically provides pro-vides for an Increase of salary for the . teachers of Salt Lake City as well as providing more money for school purposes. pur-poses. Through the bill Salt Lake City is able to tax Itself high for school purposes, pur-poses, but at the same time keep it. The bill allows a slight increase In local taxes. Each year Salt Lake City pays into the country treasury something like H25.-000 H25.-000 and receives back for Its schools about $85,000. The new measure will allow al-low Salt Lake City to keep its taxes to a greater extent. In the Senate four bills by Rickards were passed: No. 90, providing a means of preparing a State course of study passed. " H. B. 70. provides that where an entire county constitutes a school district the 'district shall be one of the first class. H. B. IKS relates to the Issuance of tem- porary certificates to normal students. II. B. 185 relates to the duties of County "Superintendent of Schools. |
