Joseph entertained the members of the House, Gov. John C. Cutler and the members of the press at a dinner in the Elks ' club last evening. Many jolly toasts were responded to. I . ' The toastmaster for the occasion was Rudolph Kuchler of Ogden, and hfs calls for responses from various persons present pres-ent caused much merriment. Representative Preston D. Richards was the subject of many a joke because he pefers to ''travel single." Representative Repre-sentative Mills even declared that he had found one of Richards' fetters and it was signed "May." Representative Hott made a "silent" speech and sat down. In a droll manner Bishop McMillan McMil-lan was introduced as the "noisiest man in the House." A. F. Philips as the dean of newspa-perdom newspa-perdom in Bait Lake City spoke in behalf be-half of the press. Then, there was a re- v eponse "from the power behind the throne," when Mrs. Elizabeth Kuchler, the special guest of the party and the only woman present, answered to a toast t'fist sparkled with wit and humor. ' Joseph was presented with, a silver ring cup. The presentation address Jas made by J. F. Tolton. On the cup . Jte engraved the signatures of the members mem-bers of the House. ' Those who responded to the call of the toastmaster were Gov. John C.'Cntler, John M. Mills, Robert P. Hott, J. F. Tolton, J. P. Miller, Brigham Clegg, H. S. Joseph, John Parry, O. L. Thompson, George A. Hone, J. D. Long, P. D. Richards, Col. George Squires, J. U. Eldredge, Jr., John Q. Critchlow, H. A. PedeTsen and A. F. Philips. Later in the evening the entire party attended the performance in the Or-pheum Or-pheum theater. |
