Show UOTITY US TO COLLEOEATHLETICS Representatives of Various Schools to Decide Upon Future of Sports. j i . I Until representatives of the various j colleges in the state get together within a week or so, the future of intercollegiate- athletics in Utah for the remainder re-mainder of the present season will remain re-main in donbt. The opinion baa obtained ob-tained a foothold among members of the athletic council of the University of Utah that the other schools in the state rna3r ive up sports for the season and thus leave the Crimson without competition. In this case the university might also abandon athletics, although it is certain that there wonld be much opposition to such a coarse among the " t ' ' student body. In case sports are continued, the matter mat-ter will come np of engaging a coach for the remainder of the year or, at least for the period of the basketball season. Thus far nothing has been f . done about this. There has been pome f 5 sentiment among the students in favor ' of making Roger (Happy) Van Pelt "-basketball "-basketball coach. Tan Ielt was captain r of the team which won the national championship and was picked as the J star of the tournament at Chicago. But it will be. impossible to obtain Van Pelt unless the matter is sett-led quickly, for the big Utah athlete has been offered of-fered the position of coach at the Montana Mon-tana State college, Fred Bennion's present pres-ent hang-out. Bennion is going into business in Montana. |
