Show SOLDIERS 10 11 CHRISTMAS CHEER Committee of Local Red Cross Plans Enjoyable Festivities. I'eterniiued t ha t every soldier here or in the vicinity of Salt Lake shall enjoy en-joy a aristmas that will never be forgotten, for-gotten, the Christmas committee of the local' chapter of the American Kcd Cross, under Cl.n Miller, the field director, di-rector, met yesterday afternoon and mapped out a programme. Director Miller said last night that it was claimed to devote Christmas at the fort entirely to cheering the soldiers, sol-diers, especially because of the fact that many of the boys are for the first time spending this season away trom their homes. There is also the t a't that another Christmas will see man; of the soldiers on the other side of the water, hence the desire to bring home to every defender of the flag as much of chee-, good will, comfort and mirth as united effort will afford. There is to be a giant Christmas tree, the largest that can be found, with a present pres-ent for every one of the l'mihj and odd soldiers at the post. The tree will be id an I ed on the pa ratio grounds, profusely pro-fusely decorated with red, white anil blue lights, ami will bear a present for every suldier at the post. The post band, stationed in the big band stand, will play mu.-ie t hi uuhou t th test v-ities v-ities and the Y. M. C. A. building and social hall will be turned over to the committees in charge of the affair, The oroL'ramme for t tie ore a. si on will be arranged bv G. K. arpenter and M rs. .1 oseph Hyde. It will include "stunts ' of divers ki nd, cont nbuted h'- actors and artists from the various theaters of the city, a t ran sport at i on committee, comprising James .lenn ings anil Lawrence Manger, arran ::i ng to take the pertormers buck and foith at such intervals that their v.urk in (iie theaters will not be interfered with. Houses of the officers of the pot are to be lighted with caudles in New h'nglflnd stvie, and it is planned to kepp U the illumination of the tree and the candles ear-h night until New Year's eve. The Christmas programme will begin at 7 o'clock and ln-t until 1 0:30. The refreshment committee is headed by Oii Heeves and M rs.
