Show BICYCLE EM SEEKS DUE FOB EBEiyEHl; Indoor Track at Bonneville Park Well Under Way; ; Astonishing Interest j in Meet. j The indoor bicycle track which Jack Prince, and Hardy K. Downing are building in the Bonneville park dancing pavilion for winter racing, will soon be a reality and should be rea!y for training purposes by the middle of the wee.k. A force of carpenters has been at work the past week cutting the lumber and joining the uprights and began putting put-ting them in plate yesterd.iv. According Accord-ing to Prince, the frames will be ready for the surface of inch strips tomorrow. When Prince and iJowning first decided de-cided to build this track for the winter sea.son they figured that it would take some time to nurse the game back to its former degree of popularity nud did not make arrangements for a verv large seating capacity, hut tho genuine interest in-terest that has been manifested by the former fans and local racing cyclists has convinced them that the game is due to come back with a boom and they have altered their plans to make room for almost an additional thuue-and in the seating capacity. in order to make room for this extra seating capacity it was found necessary to make the track twelvo lap? to the mile instead of eleven, as originally planned, but this will not interfere with the Bpeed of the track in any way, as the speed of a track depends upon .tho width more than upon the number of laps. Jn order to enlarge the seating accommodations the track will be shortened short-ened sufficient to make room for twen-j tv feet of el.-'vatc, st-nts starling from! the upper rim or' the Irack on the entire j west end, v'ich means that the track ; will be surrounded wit h eleva t ed scats ! with the exception of the nnrrh side, I which Trill be the back stretch of the course. If the venture proves the success that now seems assured, it, is the intention of Prince and Downing to build a. six-lav six-lav permanent track for summer racing that will 1)0 the fnstcst of its kind in t.hc world. Now that tho local nmntenr and professional pro-fessional rider,- realise that the track is a realitv thev are chock full of enthusiasm enthu-siasm and already more than fifty gimon pures have signified their intention inten-tion of competing in the opening mpet December lrt, and also in the six-dav relay team race to start two days later. Owing to tho fact that this race will be limited to ten or twelve teams a number of speed trials and elimination contests will necessarily be held in order to select the best trains. Tho locnl profession ills a re also in training and will be nsd in the special sprint and match races, both on the opening open-ing nii!h t and during the six-dav race. The local bicycle dealer-? sjiv the proposed pro-posed carnival lias put new life iu their business and already they have been deluged with orders for racing 'machines and racing tires. With the riders doing some preliminary prelimi-nary training now and ten clays in which to put on the finishing touches and become accustomed to the turns of the tra'k, they should be in good shape for the big opening. |
