Show LEASE SURRENDERED . 01 BIS GIF ilE i Ferber Property May Be Taken Over by United States Smelting. j FERBER, Xev., Dec. 1. Operations ! by the Western Mines Development com- pany at the Big Chief mine have been I suspended and the equipment removed, t It is understood the company has sur-! sur-! rendered the lease and bond it held on the property, or that it will do so after cleaning up the marketable from' the , dumps and sending it to the smelter. A large tonnage of lead-silver ore was . produced and shipped, though the lessee company failed to get the benefit of the high lead market for most of it. ' When the price for lead vras around 10 and 11 cents the company was unable to get the ore hauled at the figure it was vilHngto pav, so 200 tons of ore will be left on tne dumps, being too low" grade to ship at present prices. There are about 2o0 tons yet to be shipped. It is reported that tho I'nited States Smelting company will acquire the property, but will probably not begin operations until next spring. Y. B. Weeks, intermountain manager for the exploration department of the smelting company, is expected here M on day on business connected with the deal. Xo work is being done at the Ferber Copper property, the company having ceased operations about two weeks ago, except for shipping the ore on the dumps. This is now being forwarded j to a smelter. Future plans of the man- j agement are not known, but it ,is believed be-lieved here that no work will be carried car-ried on this winter: The building formerly occupied bv the Ferber Mercantile company will j probably be removed by the owner to Gold Hill, and re-erected there, as the j owner does not intend to return to this i district. |
