Show DUCK SEASON OPENING WILL REMAIN SAME Opening day for the duck shooting season in Utah' will remain as it is now. although federal officials had contemplated con-templated asking congress at the coming com-ing session to make the date coincide with that of otber states operating under the national game Jaw, which is September 15. The date will continue to be October 1, due to the efforts of R. H. Siddoway, state fish and game commissioner, to prevent interference with the existing regulations in this reject. Yesterday Mr. Siddoway received a letter from E. TV. Nelson at Washington, Washing-ton, chief of the federal biological survey, sur-vey, which stated that the intention to change the duck season opening date to September 15 had been abandoned because of th; reasons set forth in the Utah commissioner's protest. Mr. Siddoway Sid-doway bad informed the officials at Washington that on account of the frequency of late spring seasons in Utah, the young ducks were often of insufficient development to take care of themselves by September 15. It is often the case. Mr. Siddoway pointed o'jt. that voung ducks remain squabs, . being unable to fly. up to nearly October Oc-tober 1. the present opening date, and t hat to open the season earlier would mean unnecessary destruction of water fowl in this state. |
