Show INSTRUCTS REALTORS C. F. Barrett Addresses Salt Lake Board Members Mem-bers at Meeting. At the regular meeting of the Salt Lake Real Estate board, held at the Newhouse hotel Friday, at which there were thirty-five- members and guests present, C. F. Barrett and Mr. Burke of the city waterworks department gave short and instructive talks to the realtors and their guests about the city's water supply and how it is handled. han-dled. Mr. Barrett urged the realtors and n'n Tnnflrfw nwnor f o at. all times make preparations for and see that the city water supply is and shall be sufficient, to anticipate the needs and prepare, rather than wait until dire necessity ne-cessity called for adequacy, extension and improvement. By so doing, he believes be-lieves present water rates will take care of the department without any increase. He also stated that from present experience of this cit' and statistics sta-tistics of other cities throughout the country, the meter system is the only equitable way of serving water by a municipality to its users. Mr. Burke, who lias charge of assessing assess-ing and collecting water rates, gave very interesting and at the same time valuable information to realtors on how to save monov on water tax. When a house is vacated owners should immediately im-mediately notify the department and it will see that owners do not have to pay water rates during its vacancy, provided pro-vided it is vacant for a period of three months or more. If the realtors or agents for property will mail a list of,, properties they own or handle, by simply sim-ply giving the street numbers (as their books are kept by street numbers only and not by name of owner), they will see that the notices for rates are ; delivered to the right parties, and at the same time it will be a big saving to the department, as it will mean the elimination of thousands and thousands thou-sands of duplicate, notices. Another suggestion of importance to realtors and agents is that when selling property, 1 call up the department and find out if . there is any delinquent water rates. This will eliminate the trouble occa- '. sioned by unsuspecting purchasers buy-, iug property and then being compelled j to pay for water used by former owners. own-ers. It is the intention of the officers of the board to have talks from time to time by the men who are handling city affairs, for it is neeessar3' that the realtors join hands with these men and work together for the common, good of the city and its people. |
