It is be- fJieve.l hero that tlio agreement reached yesterday tetweon the copper producers and the war industries board, fixing tho price of copper, included a tentative agreement which it is thought will end tho labor dispute in tho Mon-I Mon-I tana copper mines and smelters. This I agreement provides for a substantial increase in wages aud concessions to the employees on scvoral points at issue, but does not include the abolition of the "rustling card system." That the proposed concessions and increased in-creased wages were agreed upon by the f'f' producers at ths earliest solicitation of members of the war industries board wpjfinformation obtained by the chair-U chair-U jKa of tho house committee oil mines pand mining. r' This committee is considering a resolution reso-lution introduced by 1-icpresentative Rankin of Montana, proposing to have the government commandeer tho Mon-' tana copper mines and smelters aud work them during the war period. Members of the committee sought in- formation concerning labor conditions in the copper mining districts of Montana Mon-tana from the war industries board and the federal trades commission and in view of the information obtained i--"that higher wages are to be paid and concessions granted, it is expected tho committee, will report adversely upon the Rankin resolution. |
