Show MORE MONEY NEEDED BY SCHOOL BOARDS No Action Will Be Taken Immediately, However, to Obtain Increased j Levies. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, Sept. C2.i-AIthough convinced con-vinced that the "Weber county commissioners commis-sioners have been too economical in , fixing the levy for the Ogden and ; Weber county school districts, members of the board of education decided today to-day to take no immediate action toward to-ward procuring an increase of the levies. From the best estimates that can be made at this time it seems that , the city board will be short about $3000 j of the amount needed for current expenses ex-penses and the county board will be short about $1000. It is impossible to arrive at an exact figure because it is not known how much will be derived from the state funds available for school purposes. It is on this point that the county authorities au-thorities and the school board members disagree. The commissioners based the school levies on an estimate of more, than $12 per capita of school population, popula-tion, while the boards have the statement state-ment of Dr. E. G. Gowans, state superintendent su-perintendent of public instruction, that the .amount wjll not exceed $12 per capita. - The school directors also contend that the county commissioners have fixed the levies on the presumption that every dollar of taxes assessed will be collected, while there is an average of $3000 in the city and $1000 in the count' of uncollectable taxes every year. If the state per capita falls below be-low $12.50 tho members of both boards assert that a serious deficit will result-Attorney Wade M. Johnson of the citv board and Superintendent H. C. Johnson of the city schools met with members of the "Weber county board today to-day to discuss the situation. It is now too late to adjust the levies, so it was j decided not to take immediate action . on the matter. j |
