Show AKED TO TALK OF STARVING SYRIANS Noted Clergyman to Deliver Address at the Salt Lake Theater This Evening. l)r. charles F. Aked, formerly pastor of tho i'Jitli Avenue Baptist cnurch, jNew 1'ork City, commonly known as the .Rockefeller church, will deliver an address this evening at the Salt Lake theater on "The btarviu Syrians." The proceeds of the lecture will be devoted de-voted to the relief ot the Syrians and Armenians m Asia Minor. it is said that there are more than 2,140,001) destitute in the countries of Asia Minor, 400,000 of whom are orphans. or-phans. These figures do not include reiugees from igypt and Southern Mesopotamia, concerning whom details are not at hand. The cost of sustaining life varies in different areas from $3 to $10, averaging aver-aging throughout the entire field not less than $5 a person a month. Many of the stricken people of the Bible lands are now living on the charity of their Moslem neighbors, whose scanty food supplies are nearly exhausted. The local committee under whose auspices aus-pices Dr. Aked is appearing here tonight to-night includes A. M. Maloui, John C. Cutler, Miss Kate Williams, the Eev. Elmer I. Goshen. Dean William H. Leary, Paul Ourfalian, the Rev. Chester Ches-ter A. Snyder and W. N. Williams. |
