Show ROCHESTER MINES LOVELOCKS. Nov., Dec. 21. L. A. Friedman is the guiding g-erdus back of the development of the several claims constituting Rochester Hill, which are owned and operated by the Rochester Mines company. The "mine," as it is generally spoken of, is destined to he-come he-come one of the great producers of the west under his able management. Already it Vms produced more than a million and a half dollars and the different dif-ferent veins have not been tapped to a great depth. Th" farther down the company com-pany pLit'S, the richer the more important impor-tant ore becomes. Within the year a 150.000 reduction plant has been erected and the so-called Friedman tunnel lias been driven into the hill about 1500 feet. This bore was prosecuted prose-cuted to cut the veins of the hill at a vertical depth of about 1000 feet and some 1X00 feet on the dip. It lias just been completed. From it upraises will be made on the veins- ThrougTi this tunnel all ores will be handled from the mill They will be turned over to the Nevada Short Line railroad, which will transport them to the reduction plant several miles farther down the valley. There are tens of thousands of tons of ore blocked out in (he mine, assaying far above the average, sufficient to keep tiie mill running for many months. Experts Ex-perts who have examined the Rochester Mines declare Rochester Hill is one mass of ore, destined to become a record -maker in production in the west. ' The Rochester distrk-t. which lies on the apex of the Humboldt range in Humboldt Hum-boldt county, first came Into prominence in the fall of 1912, following the discovery of silver vbfues in the huge outcrops of Rochester Hill. The district is now the center of mining activity of the section and the sites of the property of the Rochester Roch-ester Mines company. The first shipments from the camp, in November, 1912, were from float returning $100 a ton. Just prfor to this the Orown Point No. 1. the Crown Hills and the five Weaver claims, now the property of the Rochester Mines company, were located. They have since been found to cover the apexes of all the main veins and have produced much of the tonnage of the camp. When tho attention of L. A. Friedman Fried-man was called to this veritable mountain of rich ore. he was quirk to see its possibilities as a producer, wliii.li resulted re-sulted in the incorporation of the Rochester Roch-ester Ml tK'S company. Tn April of this year the company's ten-ntamp mill was completed ai a cost of Jl .")0,0iVi :m was placed in operation. It is treating the ore by means of what Is known as the continuous counter-current decanation process, with Iorr equipment, equip-ment, and Is pronounced one of the moat efficient and up-to-date plants In the west. Constructed with an estimated capacity of 100 tons, it is now successfully treating about 130 tons a day, and it is believed even this i.'a parity can he increased. Treatment charges are slightly above $2 per ton. The- average daily production of the mill runs between $U00 arvd $200ii. depending upon the grade of the ore handled. han-dled. A feature of the mine is the so-called Friedman tunnel. Its portal is well down the side of Rochester Ilil! and at a projection pro-jection of 1500 feel has crosscut a number of veins other than those outcropping upon the crown of the, hill. This tunnel w;is projected for the purpose pur-pose of crotjscni ting the known veins of the company, from r.hich upraises will be made. When connection has been made with the upper workings, nil ores will be mucked through this bore to cars on the Nevada Phort Line, which transports the ore from the mine to the mill. The latter lat-ter is about two miles farther down the valley. The Rochester Mines company is headed by L. A. Friedman of Lovelocks as president presi-dent and general manager. W. C. Pitt of Lovelocks is vice president and H. J. Mnr-rish Mnr-rish of Lovelocks is sacretarv. The above, with J. P. O'Brien of Pan Francisco, Sam Piatt of Reno and Richard Hartley of Salt Lake, constitute the board of directors. |
