Hat the people woke up to (lift realization realiza-tion of the fact Mint, sanitation and heahh go hand in hand, and the em of improvement uas i iiauyiirat ed. The. new eoutity hospital was built at a eost of $C"ll,fW)(J and opened in 1 0 1 : J , and from that time down to the present hour the watchwords of the county board of health have been "progress" and ' modernity. ' ' Splendidly Equipped. The hospital itself is splendidly equipped, has an isolation hospital op eraled in eonneetion with the institution, institu-tion, and also a separate ward for tubercular tu-bercular patients. This latter innovation innova-tion Im-s proved of much benefit, both in good results altained aud in affording euin-euionc.e tor handling patients. Mif-H Marv U. Jlanson, chief norse. at the hoppitat, has direct charge of the big institution and supervision of all the nurses employed. She is assisted by two graduHte, nurses, Miss Ellen Olesou and Mine Elsie Snyder, and by thirteen pupil narsea, some oi" whom will this year complete their course of three yoat'P ' work and become graduate nurses. It is expected that this year a not her class of six pupil nursos will be added, bringing the total of the staff of nurses up to more than twenty. The patients entering the hospital during the year numbered 127. Snyder Has "Fad." Dr. 0. P. Snyder, county physician and superintendent of the county hospital, hos-pital, has one real "hobby," "fad,'' "ideal,'' or whatever one might choose to cdll it, that is sanitation, not only iu the homes, but out of door? as well. Iff believes that small towns should be as zealously guarded with regard to cleanliness as are the larger towns and cities, and he preaches and practices this doctrine during his waking hours is even said to ponder its problems while he sleeps. A system of district inspection, inspec-tion, similar to that in vogue in the city schools, was inaugurated in 19M, an S actively pushed in the year just closed with highly gratifying results. Working.in conjunction with Dr. Snv-der Snv-der on the. county staff are Dr. C. IV. Rao,.as.f rfknt superintendent of the hoDpitat, ' J. C. F. Harvielle and Dr. Hardie l,yoch, the latter also a member mem-ber of tnft- city staff, who is filling the place caused bv the resignation of Dr. Claude L. Shields. For 1116 ytill further improvements nro planned, and there is small question but the Salt Lake county board of health will continue to keep in the very van of progress. |
