TliK largest and most elaborate New Year's function enjoyed by Salt Lake society was a tea dance given at tlie home of Senator and Mrs. Thomas J-Cearns yesterday afternoon and evening from 5 until S:u0 o'clock. The guesls were received in the drawing room and the dancing was in the ballroom, on . thf- third floor. The ballroom was decorated to simulate simu-late a Japanese garden. Wistaria vines, with their lavender blossoms, were tv. iocd'over trellised archways and. the delicate pink of apple blossoms formed scions for cozy corners.' Japanese lan-. lan-. tenia lighted vine-covered pagodas and the guests seemed literally transported v i i nm the snowy atmosphere outside into the springtime in the land of flowers. The roses were arranged in a tall silver basket as a centerpiece cen-terpiece for the table, which was covered with lace doilies. The regal roses were also usi'd about the room. The guests were received by Senator and Mrs. Kearns, Miss Helen Kearns, Thomas Kearns, Jr., and Edmund Kearus.
