Our city is no exception aud it is our duty as citizens to take council among ourselves our-selves and to determine with firm vesolutiou that Salt Lake t'ity must be advanced along the lines of material aud civic bettermeut. How best to accomplish this end should be the serious concernment of every good citizen. In the breathless struggle for individual gain, so characteristic of modern life, it is well to pause and calmly to . inquire of ourselves, "Are we doing our part to be true friends, considerate neighbors, good citizens citi-zens ' ' Xatuie has done wonders for us here iu this charming valley; man, also, has much to his credit; yet a gTeat labor remains and it is our duty to solemnly resolve that each one will do his part. Not the least important factor in the upbuilding of a community is a spirit of unity. And this spirit cannot prevail without broad sympathy, generous tolerance of divergent opiuion aud full recognition that sincerity aud bouesty do not always mean perfect agreement with any given ruie of conduct. For the administration iust now taking charge of city affairs I ask the earnest support "of every riti-zeu. riti-zeu. Counsel, ad ice aud honest criticism will be welcomed, for by such means alone can municipal officers of-ficers keep in touch with the public pub-lic pulse. The problems which must be confronted con-fronted are many and complicated. The wisest solution of these problems prob-lems is the siucorest desire ot the city commissioners. lilcouomv. .justice, .jus-tice, efficiency, honesty and' progress prog-ress are what the people require, and likewise are what the commissioners commis-sioners will endeavor to give them. Let us then work together, to the end that we may understand each other better and that we mav build here a city r little better, a little more desirable than it has been, even, heretofore. |
