Aspirants for the position of state fish and game commissioner received a gen- ' nine shock yesterday when friends of Harold B. Lamb, a wealthy young clubman club-man and sportsman, began an active campaign cam-paign for his appointment to that position. posi-tion. The shock to the Democratic "pie" committee was equally as great as it was to the office seekers. Influential men of the Democratic party waited on Governor-elect Simon Bamberger Bamber-ger and other members of the "pie" committee com-mittee and presented the credentials of I the young clubman. Among the indorsements indorse-ments reported to have been recei ved by Mr. Lamb is one from Mrs. rid win F. Holmes, an aunt of Mr. Lamb, and a strong supporter of the Democratic party. Mr. Lamb lias made no active campaign cam-paign in his own behalf. He declared yesterday yes-terday that he was in no sense an applicant appli-cant for the place, but would accept the position if tendered. His friends, however, how-ever, assert that on account of his wide knowledge of the conditions in the state he Is unusually well fitted for the position. W. M- Royiance of Provo brought in a strong recommendation for the appointment appoint-ment of George A. Storrs of Utah county for the post of warden of the state prison. Also lie presented a plan to solve the question of "pie" distribution. His idea is to give each county the ri'ht to name its preference for the va rious offices, based upon an even peiventaue of tho vote cast for Governor-elect Bamberger. |
