Ward and Anderson have not 'yet selected a manager to succeed Bill Carrigan, who ; insists he will letlre from baseball. An-! tlioritatlvo information declares that Jimmy Callahan, formerly with the Chi- 1 eago White Sox and now with the Pittsburg Pitts-burg Pirates, would be more than suitable to the new owners. However, Callahan already has signed a Pirate contract. Harry Frazee, who probably will he ! elected president of the new Boston outfit, out-fit, is a great admirer nf Callahan. It is said that Callahan assisted the new Red Sox owners in springing the deal which gave them control of the club. When they first purchased the club and heard that Carrigan was going to retire from baseball they took tho matter up with friends of Callahan. Put Callahan was not a free agent and did not talk business. Friends say the only thing that keeps Callahan from managing the Red Sox next year is the fact that Bainey Dreyfus will not release him. |
