Xibley and Mrs. Harold R. Smoot. Poinsettia In a gold basket was the central decoration tor the tea table. Presiding at the tea table in turn were Mrs. 6. A. "Whitney, Mrs. Frank Fisher Mrs. Walter C. Lewis, Mrs. Jack Rook-lidge Rook-lidge and Mrs. Fred Dern. Assisting the hostesses in entertaining the guests and in serving tea were Mrs. Joel Kibley, Mrs Ira K. Humphrey. Miss Beth Baldwin, Miss Mary Wall Mlss Gulia Dix and Miss Darlene Kimball. Three hundred Invitations Invita-tions wore issued. The annual Red and Black dance, one of the leading social functions in the Salt 1 Lake high schools, was held lust night in the Auditorium. About 2000 were in ! attendance at the event, including students stu-dents and friends of the schools. Tha hall was decorated in the school colors, red and black, with the many banners ban-ners and pennants prettily arranged. Numerous Nu-merous cozy corners added to the beauty of the decorations. Robert McConaughy, president of the East High School Student association, and Albert Warden, editor of the Red and Black, were in charge of the dance and were assisted by the executive committee of the two high schools. Gilliian. , j The active members of the Alpha Chi sorority of the University of "Utah enter-1 enter-1 talned the pledges of the organization last : evening at a Christmas party given at ' their chapter house on Twelfth East etreet. The rooms were decorated in red t bells, holly and red pepper plants. A decorated Christmas tree was placed in the Living room, on which hung gifts which were presented to the members. The pledges are Miss Mary Snedden, Miss Lucile Snedden, Miss Amy Silver, Miss Sibyl Spalding, Miss Ruth Davis, Miss Sarah Blair, Miss Elizabeth Prosser, Miss June Street, Miss Ada Thurber, Miss Blanch Marks, Miss Florence de Rosa, Miss Bessie Marks, Miss Mildred Tanner, Miss Anne Newman, Miss Emily Brin-ton. F. club and the Froebel society of the University of Utah entertained yesterdav from 5 until un-til 7 o'clock at a buffet supper given in honor of Miss Potty Hill, head of the kindergarten department at Columbia university. uni-versity. The supper was served in the women's restroom, which was decorated In Christmas colors, plants and ferns. Because of a delayed train. At least one Salt Lake hostess has the courage of her convictions in the boycott Mrs. C. C. Countryman, who will leave tomorrow with her husband to spend the Christmas holidays in Iowa.. Higson, who entertained the Agenda club Monday afternoon, served luncheon without with-out the use of butter and eggs, and omitted potatoes from the menu. A dainty dish of minced chicken, which Is usually supposed to have butter as one of its principal ingredients, was made palatable by the use of the oil from the chicken, and the absence of eggs and potatoes was not noticeable. Covers were laid for. the twelve club members. The Wasatch Literary club will hold its annual philanthropic meeting this afternoon after-noon at the Orphans' Home and Day Nursery. Useful presents will be given the children, and refreshments will be served. A programme will also be a feature fea-ture of the entertainment. A story teller from the kindergarten department of the University of Utah will tell a Christmas story. Miss Mona Campbell and Miss Kathcryn Campbell will dance the minuet In costume. Miss Alherta Jones will sing, accompanied by her brother, Ellas Jones. The Hubbard twins also will sing. ' . The Authors' club will complete Its study of "The Messiah" under the, direction direc-tion of Squire Coop in a meeting this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. W. "W. Rlter, on East First South street. It will be an open meeting and each member Is privileged to bring a friend. Squire Coop will give a lecture and members of the Oratorio society will furnish music. The marriage of Miss Nina Sidwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Sidwell of Nephi, and Albert E. Sells will take place today in the Salt Lake temple. The members of the Sigma Chi fraternity fra-ternity of the University of Utah entertained enter-tained last evening at a dancing party given at their chapter house on East First Sou tli street. Supper was served at It o'clock. The guests were seated at small tables, on which were placed btue-nhaded btue-nhaded candles in silver candlesticks. Corsage bouquets of violets and white roses were used as favors. The Tango Troubadours furnished the music. Entertainment En-tertainment during the supper hour was furnished by Harry Reichman, an entertainer enter-tainer from the Newhouse hotel. About 100 guests were In attendance.
