Show j TIMELY SUGGESTION. j Speaking at the Rotary club luncheon : yesterday, liihhop Glass made a suggestion sugges-tion which deserves the attention of the city commission. Bishop Glass pointed out that the beautiful view from the High Line boulevard, a view, whether by night or day, unexcelled in the United States, would gradually be shut off by the building of residences. He proposed that the city purchase a strip at the side of the boulevard sut'fieiefTt to preserve the view. At ' present not moro than half a dozen houses have been erected along the south side of Eleventh avenue and these do not materially interfere with the view, but inasmuch as the property adjoining the boulevard is the most desirable de-sirable in that region it will be purchased pur-chased vapidly for residences. In a few years that side of the boulevard will bo lined throughout its entire length with houses. Tho lay of the land is such that the city need buy only one tier of lots along Eleventh avenue. The slope is so great that houses built on the second tier could not obscure tho view from1 tho boulevard. j The bishop's suggestion is worthy of immediate consideration, because the strip can be purchased now at a reasonable rea-sonable cost. In a few years, when the lots have all been occupied by residences, resi-dences, tho cost will be formidable. |
