Democratic leaders in the house who have taken liberties lib-erties with the name of William J. Bryan in makinK their fight for a tax on raw wool received a Jolt today wlion they read an editorial written by the Ncbras-kan. Ncbras-kan. 'The editorial appears in this week's edition of Mr. Bryan's Commoner, and It leaves no room for doubt as to where Mr Bryan stands as between the members mem-bers of the ways and means committee who want free raw wool and those who under the leadership of Chairman Underwood Un-derwood are prepared to put duty of 5 or (5 cents a pound on that staple. Mr. Bryan's declaration for froe raw wool and his criticism or Democrats who contemplate voting for a dutv Is being hailed with delight by the radical members mem-bers of the ways and means committee. Mr. Bryan's sentiments are regarded as especially significant in view of his well known friendship for Speaker Clark, who however, is standing with Chairman Underwood Un-derwood for a duty on wool. It is now believed the Democratic caucus of the house majority will declare for free wool or such a material reduction of duty as will be equivulcnl to free wool so far as the wool-growing Industry Is concerned. |
