In order to comply with the woninn's nine-hour day enactment enact-ment Introduced by Representative Myron B. Richardson of Weber county and passed by the recent legislature, merchants mer-chants of Ogden who employ women In their stores have Inaugurated a double shift on Saturdays. While the new law went inio effect last Tuesday. It did not really effect local merchants until today. Manager P. T. Wright of the, Wright Bros, dry goods store, where the larger number of women are emploved In Og-dcn. Og-dcn. and other merchants employing women labor, have expressed their approval ap-proval of the law, believing' that shorter hours for their women employees will result re-sult in more satisfactory service. At the Wright store, where 100 women clerks arc employed, work is begun at S:30 o clock on Saturdays instead of S o clock, with one-fourth of the women employes going to work af. that hour and working until .noon and remaining at leisure until 2" o'clock. Returning to work this shift will remain at work until i:30 o'clock, completing the nine hours. The larger shift "goes to work at noon and works until 10 o'clock at night, with one , hour allowed for dinner. By this arrangement the store will have Us entire forco on duty during the busiest hours of the day. This Is only applicable to Saturdays, as the. .employees have not been working- more than nine hours on other days of the week. |
