The second session of the llrst annual Utah state convention of the lCpworlh league was held at the III IT church Su't-urday Su't-urday afternoon. beginning at o'clotk. The Rev. R. V. Nichols delivered deliv-ered the principal address of the day. discussing "The League In Other Lands. Mr. Nichols gave statistics which he had compiled, showing that there arc fc'J-i senior chapters and "At) Junior chapters, with a total membership of 77,252 in foreign for-eign lands. The speaker called attention to the manner in which the missionaries are carrying on the noble work across the water so effectively "The future of tho ICpworlh league is assured, as every organization, no matter where located, Is advancing wonderfully," sajd Mr. Nichols Nich-ols in closing. Mrs. J. I.. Jaeobson. taking as her theme "Junior League Work." spoke of the advantages which are being derived by tho voung people who are thrown in contact with those who are carrying out prearranged plai)3. .Mrs. Jaeobson spoke enthusiastically or Ihe various phases or the work, which thus far has proven so Interesting. Miss Bernice Day spoke encouragingly about Christian literature, as one ot the most beneficial courses for the young people peo-ple to pursue The speaker alto named tho work of many great authors, which should be adopted for dally use. Business and round table discussions were participated in during the afternoon, the Rev. F. 13. Short taking the initiative in this matter. Another excellent musical musi-cal programme was rendered. Miss Agnes Ag-nes Colelough and J. A- Clark assisting. The third session will be held this afternoon af-ternoon at the lllff church beginning at 3 o'clock. Among the speakers will be tho Itev. IS. E. Mork. B- F. Tranp. 11. C. Scott and the Rev. Fred O. Kclley of Provo, This evening at the First Methodist Metho-dist church tho closing session will bo held. Addresses will be delivered by the Rev. II. J. Talbot. Rev. F. 15. Short, Miss 1-1. 12. Laney. Early KIrby and others. |
