Show Springfield (Mass.) Republican: "There is pending in Congress a bill giving government omployoes tho right to nf filiate with labor unions. On Saturday Sat-urday Second Assistant Postmaster-General Postmaster-General Stewart appeared before the House committee on civil service in opposition op-position to tho bill. Ho pronounced it a measure to enable postal and other government employees to organize strikes, and coerco tho Government, intimidate in-timidate Congress and subvert tho public pub-lic administration. Which is true, 'Do you deny the right of government clerks to strike?' he was asked. And the reply was that ho did; that government, employees em-ployees had a right to resign individually, individual-ly, but not concertedly and collectively as in case of a strike. And again he is right. The government is not conducted for profit and can therefore be relied upon tc deal fairly with its employees. H thoy do nor like that treatment, or if I hey want to indulge in strikes now and thou, they can resign and go into private 1 mployment. " |
