Show EDUCATIONAL FUND TO BE DISTRIBUTED By Associated Press. NEW YOKK, May 13. After forty-four forty-four years the trustees .of thd'Peaboay educational fund arc about j;o distribute distri-bute the $2,300,000 balance remaining and close the trusteeship. Tho fund originated two years after the close of the civil war when George A. Pea-body, Pea-body, the Massachusetts philanthropist, gave $3,500,000 "to advance education," educa-tion," at least three-quarters of the money to be spent in the south. Of this fund $1,500,000 was in bonds of the states of Mississippi and Florida, afterward repudiated. One million dollars of the monef in hand will go to the Pcabody normal school at Nashville, Toun., and tho rest will be apportioned among institutions insti-tutions in the south devoting themselves them-selves to training teachers, whito and colored. |
