Show MEMORY OF NOTED WOMAN IS HONORED Bv Aspoclated Press. WASHINGTON, May 13. After nearly sixlv years of oblivion the memory of Miss Anne Ro3'allj the first American woman publicist, -was honored hon-ored hero yesterday when a tombstone was erected on her gravo in Congressional Congres-sional cemetery. Several short addresses wore made, among the speakers being T)r. Gal-laudet, Gal-laudet, who recently retired from the presidency of Columbia institute for deaf mutes, and Dr. Fred Gowing of Massachusetts. Tho State Equal Suffrage Suf-frage association of the district, the Washington chapter of the Daughters of tho American Revolution and students stu-dents of Gallaudct institute placed wreaths on hor grave. Anno Royall in 1825 began publishing publish-ing a newspaper in Washington and was the- only woman in the United States over convicted of being a "common scold." She was a cnam-nion cnam-nion of "Masonry. ITcr sympathy for deaf mutes was4 notable and sh'o did much toward bringing them into the employ of the government. |
