Show SIX-DAY BICYCLE RACE IS FINANCIAL FAILURE The six-day blcyclo race promoted by Johnny Chapman at Newark, N. J., went the way of all other six-day races promoted pro-moted outside of New York City a losing los-ing proposition. The Blcyclo World says: "It Is not probtiblo that any of tho riders will bo able to retire upon the Sroceeds from the race, for it Is not the Ig financial success that was expected. The crowds havo been large all week, but tho building has not been packed, which was necessary lo make It a financial success, suc-cess, because of tho limited seating capacity. ca-pacity. The promoters inndo the mistake of charging 50 cents, 75 cents and $1 for ndmlsslon. The Newark 'fan' has not been educated boyond 25 cents for general admission, which always has been tho price for tho great race meets at Vallsburg. It Is not surprising, therefore, there-fore, that thoy refused to pay double admission ad-mission to witness a tedious installment-plan installment-plan eix-day grind." |
