Former Senator Charles A. Towne. formorly of Minnesota, but now a resident of Now York, believes that Mayor William J. Gaj'iior of New York City will object to being named tho nominee for president presi-dent on the Democratic ticket oven if events should shape- themselves so that this could come uboul. Mr. Towno was the first man to nominate Mr. Gaynor for yiaj'or at a meeting iu Cooper Union in New York, and knows the city executive exec-utive well. Speaking of the Democratic possibilities, possibili-ties, tho former senator said: 'It rests between Governor Harmon and Ma3ror Gaynor. While many think Harmon tho most available man in the Democratic party at present, I bolicve Gaynor would be the stronger. But Mayor Gaynor will never be the candidate can-didate for president of his own volition. He would not seek tho office." Speaking generally, Mr. Towno said he did not think tho Democrats would control the next house of representatives. |
