JIo spoke on "The Spirit of Yale," which, he declared, was belter than In the days when he was a student. ' The spirit of Yale today has a higher tone morally than it. did in my day," said the president. "Jn those, days we all had an idea that there ought lo be a certain roughness and temptations In college life to. give us an insight Into the world. AVell. 1 have gotten all over that idea. I don't believe it any more., and Yale today has :i moral tone that makes a Yale experience more valuable to the student, and I congratulate Yale that it is so and the parents that have sons to send fo Yale. "The spirit of Yale is one of endurance, endur-ance, a desire to win and a willingness to fail a willingness to meet defeat, but unwillingness to resort to any method that shall taint what' come."
