Webber & Co. letter. Boston: The market today showed tho same lack of public Interest. Stocks were bid up this morning at the opening, but by noon tlmo had fallen Into the old dullness and sagged to yesterday's closing figures. Tho local market was as dull as ever and showed no change in prices. Insiders In-siders seemed willing to accumulate Indiana In-diana and the market for this Issue is better than for a long lime. Tho majority ma-jority of slocks were not quoted at all and we shall probably see little change In present conditions until after the holidays holi-days from Friday to Tuesday. Lognn Si Bryan stock letter. Now York: Considerable bullish enthusiasm was In evidence during the ilrst hour, but on lite advance long stock In volume was encountered, with the result that traders trad-ers operating for the advance reversed their attitude and prices receded sharply. In tho laat hour a covering movement caused prices to advance to about last night's level, but trading was rolatlvoly dull. The strength In corn at ono time had the effect of Inducing some selling in the stock market, which indicates that developments In that quarter are still receiving the closest attention. Reports Re-ports are being circulated with regard to the probable showing of tho unfilled tonnage ton-nage of the Steel corporation, to be Issued Is-sued about tho tenth of next month, and, In that connection. It Is said that plants are being operated at about 40 per cent of capacity and that there has been a large shrinkage in t lie booking of new orders. As expressed recently, it need not be feared hut what reactions will occur with considerable frequency, and wo would, therefore, not bo misled by occasional strength. Gallagher says: Outside market opened at closing prices today. The copper stocks, with few exceptions, sold off in sympathy with inside market. Tojiopah Mining sold at SZ. Market absolutely bare of this stock. Would not take 500 shares to mark It up to 9 bid. Ely Central Cen-tral sold by insldors down to 11-10. Looks as If tho shorts covered yesterday at 3 and 13-16. Tho Industrials qtriet and steady. Very little business. , Hornblower letter. Boston: Our market opened dull, with about as much activity as yesterday, there being only about twenty stocks traded In during the first two hours. Around noon there was absolutely ab-solutely nothing doing cither way, t he room having a pre-hollday appearance. In tho early afternoon. In sympathy with weakness In Now York, stocks were a little heavier and fractionally below the Initial quotations In some instances. Tho close had a lirm tone. New York Sun: Price movements In today's stock market were irregular and uncertain, with tendency downward during dur-ing the greater part of tho session, despite de-spite a rather tlrm opening. Business was on a contracted scale after the first hour and as of late, Union Pacific. Reading Read-ing and Steel constituted two-thirds of the market. Smelters showed more pronounced pro-nounced heaviness than any other Industrial, In-dustrial, but the prevailing influence over tho list was exercised by the three stocks mentioned. |
