Show Speech Out Short. IEOTI, Kan.. Aug. 30. The Roosevelt train stopped for a few minutes at Tribune, Trib-une, Kan., and the colonel went out to make his bow to the crowd. JuBt as lie appeared on tho platform a woman hurled a huge bunch of dahlias at him. The colonel, who Is nearsighted, saw dimly dim-ly some object hurtling through tho air directly toward his head, and dodged back, while tho crowd laughed. As soon as ho saw what it was Colonel Roosovelt picked up the bouquet and thanked tho donor. "I thought somebody was throwing a bottle at me," he said. The crowd clamored clam-ored for a speech. "Some kinds of government will succeed suc-ceed with almost any kind of people," he said, "but It takes a good grade of citizen to make a success of a government govern-ment like ours." Before ho had a chanco to complete his Bpeech, tho train pulled out. |
