Show SHERMAN INCREASING HEAT IN MISSOURI JOPLIN, Mo., Aug. 30. This was a hot day. That applies equally to the temperature and to the Republican campaign cam-paign In Jasper county. Vlco President Sherman, touring Missouri and Oklahoma, found only one cool spot; that was when ho entered tho plant of the American Lead and Zinc company, and, rolling up his sleeves, plunged his arms to tho elbows el-bows In the "Jigger" tanks, where rushing rush-ing cold water was separating the zinc and lead ore from the refuse. The visit to the mlna was an incident in a busy day. A party of Joplln Republicans Re-publicans boarded the vlco president's car a little after 6 o'clock, and when the train arrived here at 7:15 a. m. thero was a crowd at tho station to welcome the Utlca citizen. From an automobile Mr. Sherman spoke In Webb City, Centervllle and Prosperity, Pros-perity, mining towns, and then was taken to "Big Shaft" of the lead and zinc company com-pany mentioned. The automobiles were parked near the mine house, and from his car ho addressed ad-dressed ono hundred or moro miners and mine employees. He declared that protection pro-tection had been responsible for tho good wages paid them. |
