At a meeting held in Portland yesterday bc-f bc-f twecn officers of tlio field service- of the ycnoral land office and officers of tho forestry service an agreement was readied which gives to Hie general land ofTice all responsibility for r.lio patenting patent-ing of lands on the public domain. The agreement places in effect the compact recently entered into between Secretary Secre-tary of the Interior 33allingr and Secretary Sec-retary of Agriculture- Wilson respecting respect-ing tho rights of Hie two branches of ' . the service, and in offcet carries out y tho intent of the law of February 1, ., Tlio agreement provides that forest service offices shall report upon nil lo jfj cations made upon forest lauds for any & purpose, and after the reports have fr bceu sent to Washington they shall be ft returned through the secretary of the interior to chiefs of field divisions for the various districts.
