Dec. 18, Tho wheat, market opened weak, with prices ilc to ilc lower than yestorday'o final figures, and continued weak the greater part of the day. There wa a fair rally, however, late in the day, owing to active buying by shorts based mainly on a prediction that the world's shipments of wheat for the week will show n llboral decrease. As a result of this demand tho market closed at almost the best prices of tho day, with May at $1.05J1.06 and July at 97297Jc. Selling throughout the day was' inspired principally by a further dccjlne In the price of corn and oats, but weakness' 6f the wheat market at Liverpool and. the report of a St. Louis trade journal regarding re-garding trie fall-sown crop of wheat in this country ajso had influence. TJiere was no demand for cash wheat hero'a'nd export business also was at a standstill. Com closed weak, with prices iJc below be-low the previous close. Final o.uotatlons on May were at 601c and on" July at 601c Oats were weak and 6c . lower. The. market closed weak at not decline of 2 5c, with May at 51c and July at 452c Provisions were In good volume, but prices held fairly steady. At the close prices were a shade to 7c higher.
