Show BIG DREDGE FOR RIVERS OP IDAHO Sperlal to The Tribune. SPOKAXIi. Wash.. Dec. IS. Two hundred thousand dollars, half of which is for machinery and tho rest for a power plant, will be expended by tho Chicago Dredging company, which holds a bond on the Gobi Seal placer ground af the confluence of American river and Elk creek in central Idaho. J. E. Ilen-niger Ilen-niger and It. "W. Browncll made the first, payment through a Spokane bank. The company has already expended about $100,000 on the property. Dr. .Tamos Kimball, mineralogist and placer expert, one time director of the United States mine, made an examination of the ground last summer for the Chicago Chi-cago company, requiring four weeks, and it is given out that his report is favorable, and on his findings the company com-pany will equip the ground and begin operations on a largo scale next year. P. J. Jennings, field manager, is now j in Chicago making arrangements for the' dredge. The contracts with tho I owners of the ground call for the ap- I paratus to be in operation May i, 1900, but dclavs thus far preclude the possibility pos-sibility of the company's meeting that portion of its agreement. The machinery ma-chinery will represent an outlay of $100,000. Tho company will locnte a power plant on ono of the streams, and this will be equipped with electrical ma chincry to cost $100,000. The weight of the apparatus is HO tons, and it will be in Stites in timo Lo come in over tho snow road this winter. The installing of the dredge is looked upon by many of the old placer miucrs as a means of proving the richness J of the district. Fortunes were made in tho early days by operating with pan and rocker. The total output of tho district is placed by government reports at $10,000,000. This is only an estimate, as much gold was taken out by the Chinese after the first rush of white miners, inrl most of the gold found by the Chinese never went to' an assay office, but was taken to China. The method of operating in the early days did not permit of working deep gravels, and only the richest ground was panned. Ore and Bullion.
