Show DESTRUCTIVE COAL FIRE HAS LASTED FOR WEEKS TACOMA, Wash., Dec. IS. A special to tho News from Fort William, Onl., says: - The most destructive coal firo that over visited " the head of tho lakes -has been in progress for several weeks at tho Canadian Pacific coal docks. To combat the conflagration and save tens of thousands of tons of soft coal that is threatened, the railroad company is resorting re-sorting to overy known means of extinguishing ex-tinguishing tho blaze. Tho fight has so far been without result. Hundreds of tons havo been reduced to ashes and thousands of tons more. may. go before the fire is checked. Tho coal is in mouniainous piles of fire, and dozens of coal shovelcrs have fruitlessly endeavored en-deavored to get at the sent of the blaze. Fanned by gusts of wind, clouds of smoke and flames burst forth at night, giving the appearance of a niiniaturo volcano in eruption. In an cxtrcmo effort ef-fort to extinguish tho blaze the com-yany com-yany is preparing to put a steam shovel in operation.
