Tho old stylo is faithfully prcsnted in this reproduction, including type, Illustrations, Illus-trations, and paper, but of courso nil is much better, more legible, and cleaner print than those old plays wore likely to be, since they were cheap and carried none of the great artistic excellenco of tho Vest printing of that early day. Judged by the modern standard, these plays wcro coarse, unseemly, and tiresome, yet they filled a great want of tho common folk In their day, nnd played a strong pnrt in pious instruction and rcvernco of feeling In tho times when they were In vogue. The publishers have dono a public service In presenting so complete and handsome an edition as this. |
