Show CITY SCHOOL NOTES. The second assembly of the year was held last Friday at the high school. Over COO students participated in the yells and acclamations. Principal Eaton spoke concerning, the tine standard of culture on the part of high school students stu-dents and urged a full showing at the Laturday3 lnterhlgh-school football game. Speeches were then made by all the members of the team and also by Arthur Parsons, manager of "Red and Black," and by Miss Rhea Rogers of '03 class- All were received enthusiastically. enthusias-tically. The concluding exerclcses consisted' of the singing of "The Red and Black"' and the giving of the high school yells. The physical culture class will be Initiated In-itiated at the West Side high school in the very near future. At a meeting held during the week the girls received the proposition for the opening of such a class, with- characteristic eagerness. Miss Peterson, already an Instructor in the school, will drill the classes. The suggestion has gone forth from some of the city principals that a form of military drill be given boys of the fifth and sixth grades, since they are not permitted to take the sloyd work with their senior schoolmates of the seventh and eighth grades. Superln-tenden Superln-tenden Chrlstenseni has granted teachers teach-ers of the fifth- and sixth grades permission per-mission to conduct classes In sewing for the girls, which led to the suggestion sugges-tion that boys of those grades likewise be given a diversion. o At tho last principals' meeting attention- waa called to the matter of corporal cor-poral punishment inflicted by grade teachers. It was pointed out that no teacher is 'justified in administering doses of shakes, ear-pulls, or any of the varieties of medicine for the bad boy. The principal Is the sole Judge as to the advisability and propriety of administering admin-istering corporal punishment. Principal Bradford1 is about to organize or-ganize a basket-ball club at the Lowell.
