Both places are to be terminals and fine buildings will go up at each point, making two thriving thriv-ing towns in Lincoln county. The air is thick with rumors, most of them unfounded. The Rock Island comes to the front again with rumors of extensions to the West. The Denver Post has a column story from New York on new deals, but as the details show that a road will run from Denver or from the West lo cop-nect cop-nect at Thistle Junction, the whole force of the article Is lost, as It is well known that Thistle Is a little hollow scooped out of solid mountains, with no pass anywhere near by . except the one which Is used by the Rio Grande and for its branch to Sanpete. Chief Engineer Dlllman of the Western West-ern Pacific was In Reno Thursday and left for Bcckwith Pass, where he has engineers at work surveying the route. He says that the main line will not go through Reno, as was pointed out some time ago. but that a spur will be built to that city or the N. C. &. O. will be used. Mr. Dlllman Insists that the road will be built from Salt Lako to San Francisco. Samuel J. Henry has gone East lo reside permanently and it Is now a foregone conclusion that he will join Mr. Parker on the C. H. & D. The Denver News places the Rock Island with the Moffat road and the Salt Lake Route, Senator Clark's statement will carry glad tidings to the people of Lincoln county. Callente and Laa Vegas will now try to secure the county seat of Lincoln. De La Mar people will favor Las Vegas, which will place the seat In the center of the county. The Rio Grande has had a great week In passenger travel. Ballasting has proceeded to a point beyond Faust on the Salt Lake Route. That J. R. Harrlman of New York Is In the city caused some speculation In railroad circles, but the gentleman is a brother of Oliver Harrlman and in the banking business. Although tn firm Is deeply In railroad securities the Salt Lake visitor is not in any sense a railroad man. With Sam Henry going back to Parker, Par-ker, Frank Wadleigh coming back lo the Rio Grande and the name of A. E. Wclby associated with another posivjon with the Scenic Route, old Salt Lakers are likely to be heard from. General Agent Hoyt Sherman of the Colorado Road says that Seventeenth street Is filled with rumors of construction construc-tion resignation and satisfaction. Most of them aro without foundation, however. how-ever. Travel to Ncwhouse has picked up wonderfully nnd there is a heavy froleht tonnago to that point also. Something big Is about to break loose in the uptown building. A Denver man says that the Moffat road Is tho finest piece of construction ever seen in the mountains. That will make two such lines, for out here the Salt Lake Route is being built or standards stan-dards not dreamed of by early railroad builders.
