Salsbury, chief witness for the prosecution In the water deal cases, today to-day at the bribery trial of ex-Mayor Perry, for the first time named the person per-son "who helped him in tho duplicate key scheme In Chicago, by which he secured se-cured an alleged boodle fund of 550,000 deposited there and belonging to the Bartons of Omaha. Salsbury testified that- It was his brother, "Walter Sals-bury. Sals-bury. Salsbury stated further that tho $50,000 was not returned to the Bartons with the understanding that they would not prosecute him. He declared that lt was turned over to a detective named Magulre, who lives In Chicago. , Magulre still holds the money, he said, the understanding being that ln case Salsbury Is convicted in. the case against him ln connection with the Barton fund, the money will be turned over to himself. Salsbury made this statement only after making a record to the effect that tho statement might lead to the prosecution prose-cution of other persons ln Illinois and that he made lt only because forced to do so. |
